PUBLICATIONS My research writings all involve, in some form or another, an inquiry into how schools represent central and important contexts for holistic human development. I take this to mean, in the broadest sense, schools exist equally for the development of students and their families, as well as for educators; and that education is as much a matter of the heart and the hand as it is of the head. Holistic education simply means we attend to body, mind and awareness in education; to emotion and cognition and behavior; to ethics and prosocial action as much as scholarly ways of knowing. How can we create educational settings, and new pedagogical practices, that cultivate wholesome and holistic habits of mind, habits of heart, and habits of practice that conducive towards personal well-being , health and success as well as social participation, service and ethical responsibilities to one other and the planet as a whole? |
